At Lolland Language School, we have developed our own Language Buddy Training programme. The Language Buddy Training programme is designed for companies whose employees work closely with colleagues who speak Danish as a second language and who would like to improve their ability to support these colleagues.

## The Language Buddy Training Programme

The Language Buddy Training programme is an interdisciplinary course. It is divided into three parts covering theory, culture, and practice. Our Language Buddy Training programme can be adapted to meet the needs of different companies. Participants who speak Danish as a second language can also take part in the programme, if they are fluent in Danish.

## Content of the Language Buddy Training Programme

Participants will learn about the three different Danish language education programmes. They will learn about second language acquisition in adulthood—for example, how language learning takes place in the brain and in the body, and what makes learning Danish particularly challenging. Participants will learn about support translanguaging and concepts such as scaffolding, interlanguage, and polysemous words. They will learn about different tools and methods that can be used to support colleagues who speak Danish as a second language. Participants will learn about—and discuss—different types of body language: universal, personal, cultural, and work-related. They will also learn about and discuss cultural understanding. The Language Buddy Training programme always includes a practical dimension, where participants receive concrete ideas on how to support colleagues who speak Danish as a second language in the workplace.
