About Preparatory Adult Education (PAE/FVU)
FVU is for you if you would like to strengthen your skills for everyday life, work, and the future, and improve your Danish, your reading, your spelling, learn English, or improve your IT or mathematics skills.
- If you start an FVU course at Lolland Language School, you should expect to attend classes once a week per subject you are enrolled in. We offer FVU courses at our locations in Maribo and Nakskov, and we are also happy to provide courses at a workplace if a group can be formed.

- FVU is free of charge. Teaching takes place in small groups based on your level. A course typically lasts 4–6 months.
- FVU Mathematics and FVU Digital are established with a minimum of 10 participants.
- Books are free of charge, but you must bring your own computer, notebook, pencil, and eraser.

FVU screening
Before you can be enrolled in teaching, you must complete an FVU screening. The screening takes place in person either at the language school or at your workplace. You will be invited to the department closest to your place of residence.
See more information about screenings at the bottom of the page.
During the screening, you may be enrolled in teaching. If you have already completed a screening, you must still contact us to be enrolled in FVU courses.
FAQ - PAE/FVU Education
A FVU screening typically consists of an interview and a test, during which the school assesses which level you should start at. It is an initial conversation and assessment.
The purpose of the screening is:
- to determine whether FVU is the right offer for you,
- to determine which level is right for you,
- to gain an understanding of your needs and level,
- to inform you about where, when, and how the teaching takes place.
What happens during the screening?
You will speak with one of the language school’s FVU teachers.
You may be asked to:
- talk a little about yourself (in Danish or English),
- complete an online test (the teacher will guide you).
The screening typically lasts 2–2½ hours.
After the interview:
You will be informed about which level you should start at.
Information about classes, teaching times, and start dates will be sent to you by SMS.
If you are under 25 years old, you can take FVU if you meet just one of the following conditions:
- You are self-supporting or are and will remain in part-time employment for at least 20 hours per week.
- You are on parental leave and wish to attend individual subjects.
- You have completed an upper secondary education or a higher education programme.
- You are currently enrolled in an upper secondary education or a higher education programme.
You are not offered Preparatory Basic Education (FGU) – for example, if you first need an intensive OBU or FVU course before continuing your education.
